A Community Event of Yoga, Meditation, and Culture
Join us for a soul-nourishing morning of mindful practices, connection, and community. Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or a curious beginner, this event is designed for everyone. Let’s come together to honor our bodies, minds, and spirits.
Experience an all levels sacred 108 Sun Salutation yoga practice, the devotional practice of kirtan, a group meditation, and sacred cow feeding.
Yoga Day is a collaboration with the Veda Foundation, a Hare Krishna temple located west of DeLand, Florida. It is a serene oasis with a beautiful lake, forest walks, guest houses, organic gardening and cow sanctuary. This place is a sanctuary for all, providing opportunities to experience the science, culture & joy of spirituality. They are a dynamic centre for devotional service, giving people from all walks of life an opportunity to experience the science, culture and joy of Krishna Consciousness.
YOGA DAY COMMUNITY EVENT INCLUDES:
🧘♀️ 108 Sun Salutation Practice - Participate in this traditional, transformative practice flowing through a series of dynamic postures, synchronizing breath and movement. The practice will be guided by Krista Oakes and all levels are welcome. Sun salutations can be practiced on the mat, from a chair, or even in stillness. Expect to feel invigorated, centered, and deeply connected.
🎤 A Discussion of Spiritual Practices - Learn about the culture, tradition and spiritual practices of the temple and Hare Krishna devotees.
🕉️ Mantra Meditation - Experience the power of a group meditation and the transcendence of the mantra, a word or phrase repeated over and over again to facilitate a deep, peaceful state of being.
🎶 Kirtan - Participate in the sacred practice of Kirtan, a collective experience where the audience chants holy mantras in response to a leader’s singing. It’s a beautiful way to connect with the divine through sound and praise.
🐄 Cow Feeding - Support the Foundation’s sanctuary for cows by learning about and feeding the protected cows that reside on the property.
🍅 Vegetarian Feast - Enjoy a delicious and blessed lunch (prasad) prepared with love by the residents of the center.
What to expect:
Check in begins at 8:30 am and the yoga practice will start at 9 am followed by discussion, meditation, kirtan, cow feeding.
Lunch will be from noon - 1 pm.
Event is free and open to the public. Donations are accepted for lunch and to support the foundation. ($20 donation suggested but not required)
Bring your own yoga mat as none will be provided. Consider bringing blocks and meditation cushion or any other props to support you through the various practices. A water bottle and towel are also recommended. Chairs will be provided.
RSVP is not required but requested by August 12th so we can better be prepared for the day and ensure we have enough lunch for everyone.

KRISTA OAKES, E-RYT
Krista is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT) who has taught classes and workshops to thousands of people throughout Florida and the East Coast for nearly two decades. Her approach integrates the Kripalu Yoga style of teaching compassion, integrated with the mindfulness of meditation, and the awareness of nutrition, blended with personal training and lifestyle coaching. Krista specializes in working with beginners and teaching gentler yoga classes where the focus is on safety, proper body alignment, mindfulness and learning to trust yourself.
VEDA FOUNDATION OF FLORIDA
The Foundation is a spiritual oasis established by His Holiness Bhakti Charu Swami in 2018 as a humble offering to His beloved spiritual master Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. The project aims to become a dynamic centre for devotional service, giving people from all walks of life an opportunity to experience the science, culture and joy of Krishna Consciousness. The Foundations preserves, perpetuates, and shares Vedic Wisdom and Vedic Culture for the benefit of all people. They aim to provide a sanctuary for cows, to protect and nurture them, help society develop their love for cows, and establish the principles of Vedic Culture (simple living and high thinking) for future generations to pursue.
