Yoga is beneficial for people with cancer from diagnosis to recovery. It can be a vital support and resource for someone dealing with cancer and also their care givers.

Cancer can impact the physical body but also can affect someone’s mental and emotional state. Cancer is stressful and can lead to feelings of anxiety, anger, depression, fear and loneliness. Chair and Gentle Yoga classes with Krista provide a practice in mindfulness that help manage these emotions by incorporating meditation and breath to help calm the mind.

Physically, there is evidence-based research that shows yoga can help improve flexibility, strength, and balance in people with cancer without adverse affects. It can help with recovery from scar tissue and also lymphedema.

Many doctors now recommend gentle yoga after breast and other cancer surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy because they see it as a key component to successful recovery.

Gentle Yoga and Chair Yoga classes available can be appropriate if you have cancer , in recovery from cancer, or in remission. Krista Oakes has received specific training in oncology yoga and has a certification from the Christina Phipps Foundation.

Two weeks after my bi-lateral mastectomy and hysterectomy, I was back in yoga class after practicing yoga for many years and realized that I was able to participate and continue with my healing. My doctor was surprised that my flexibility was so good and I owed all of that to my yoga practice. I have said many times that yoga permeates your soul and I can attest to that statement because I live it everyday.
