Yoga is about so much more than just physical postures. It's actually a practice that is intended to be lived every day. It's a practice of mindfulness both on and off the mat.
“Yoga on and off the mat.”
This is an expression used in yoga. The whole reason to do yoga postures or asanas, the whole reason to practice breathing, the whole reason to go to your mat at all is so that you can come off your mat and live in the world mindfully.
You want to take the principles and the practices that you do when we're in a posture, whether it's a warrior 1 or a downward facing dog, and practice mindfulness in the pose.
The mindfulness practiced ON your mat is meant to be practice for mindfulness OFF your mat.
The mindfulness practiced on your mat creates practice so you can be mindful when you're getting in and out of the car, when you're sitting down at the couch, or when you sit down and eat. Come to your mat and do your postures so you can be mindful in everything that you do.
I want you to try it today. Go through your day and just notice. Bring awareness and mindfulness to the little little mundane tasks that you do every day and see how you feel.
Next time you’re back on your mat take that awareness in tree pose and bring it into everything else that you do.
