How do you find a moment of positivity when life is anything but easy? When you wake up to face the challenges ahead, the last thing you might consider is finding a positive outlook. I totally get it.
Like you, I’ve faced those tough moments. I remember having fights with my husband behind closed doors only to face my children on the other side of the door wondering what’s going on. I did my best to put a smile on my face to shield them from pain. But it’s an overwhelming feeling to try to stay positive when there’s anger bubbling in your veins.
Here’s something worth pondering: What if embracing the parts that feel heavy could actually help you lighten the load? I'm here to reassure you that it’s okay to admit when life feels hard. It takes courage to be vulnerable, to acknowledge feelings of sadness, anger, or frustration. Allow yourself to feel those emotions fully and express them, whether that’s through talking with a friend, practicing gentle yoga or connecting with a trusted therapist. Then, when you are with the kids, in my case, you are lighter and more able to see their beautiful faces.
Visualize this—these emotions you're holding onto could be like a storm cloud. As you give yourself permission to feel, it’s like the rain begins to fall, clearing that cloud bit by bit to reveal the sunshine behind it. By creating a space for the good, you're making room for more positive moments to flow in.
Release isn’t instantaneous, and I'll be the first to admit that it’s a challenging concept. Just like you, I’ve had moments during my divorce where it felt far from possible. But here's the thing—each time you let go of a piece of negativity, you're rewriting your reality, even amidst life's curveballs. You’re not just getting through; you’re moving through toward clarity and empowerment.
Consider this: As you move through life, what if you made a little room for self-compassion with each breath? What if you allowed negative feelings to move through you like the rain from the storm cloud, fostering the sense of lightness of being? Choose to be kind to yourself even when it feels like life might be all shades of gray.
Take a moment and ask yourself, when was the last time you allowed yourself to truly let go and feel? If it’s been a while, give yourself permission. And following that release, perhaps commit to finding a moment to embrace positivity. Maybe join our chair yoga or gentle yoga classes from the safe space of your home, where you can grow that connection with yourself.
And, for times when emotions are running high and positivity feels out of reach, remember—you’re allowed to feel and express all of it. Let’s create our own reality by opening ourselves up to feeling the range of emotions that life brings.
