Self Care is Non-Negotiable: Your Personal Appointment with Wellbeing

As we gently step into the new year, I wanted to share a valuable tool that has really worked for me—something that could become a powerful and often missed step on your path to health and wellness.

Take a moment to imagine the importance you place on your doctor's appointments. You prioritize and plan around it because you know it’s essential for your health. And to be sure you don’t miss it, I’d be willing to bet you write it down and mark it on your calendar.

Now, what if you began treating your self-care in the exact same way?

Your self-care is just as crucial, perhaps even more so. It’s not an indulgence you schedule when life permits; it’s a vital appointment with yourself. Keeping this in mind as you enter this fresh chapter of a new year, I invite you to take out your calendar. Whether you're loyal to a digital planner or prefer the old fashioned day timer, make it your ally in ensuring your well-being.

Now ask yourself these few questions.

What are the practices that nourish you?
When will you show up for gentle yoga or chair yoga class?
How about dedicating time to meditation, cooking a vibrant healthy meal, or sending a heartfelt message to a dear friend?

These are not mere afterthoughts to tack on to a busy day; they are the anchors that keep us steady amidst life's currents.

Last week, I shared insights on setting intentions for the new year. Now, let’s transform those intentions into actual appointments you put on your calendar. Choose a time to nourish your body, your mind, and your spirit, and mark it boldly in your schedule. Consider it an unmissable date with yourself and honor it with the same commitment you afford a visit to the doctor.

Can you make this commitment to yourself?

If so, right now, in this very moment, pull out your calendar. Write down one or two self-care appointments with yourself. Start with your yoga classes, even set up recurring events. Make these appointments, backed by the intentions you set let week, for this year. Remember, self-care is not an option, it’s a necessity. By treating it as essential, you create a foundation for a healthier, more mindful you.

Whether you're stepping into our classes to experience the mindfulness of gentle yoga or finding your support in chair yoga, let’s support each other in making this year one of profound self-commitment. Make you priority number one. Because you deserve it.
