Have you ever noticed how those little notifications on your phone seem to pull you in, even when you don’t want them to? The pings, vibrations, and screen lights seem harmless, but they steal your focus, making it hard to stay engaged with what really matters. Even with the sound off, that subtle glow is enough to break your concentration.
This week’s tip is simple but powerful: turn off your phone notifications. I first heard this from business coach and teacher Marie Forleo, and it struck a chord with me. Imagine not being at the mercy of every app that lights up your screen. Instead, you decide when to check messages, emails, or social media—on your terms.
Now, think about how much more present you could be in the everyday moments that matter. Whether you’re enjoying dinner with loved ones, immersed in focused work, or simply taking a quiet moment for yourself, the buzz of your phone steals your attention. Every glance fractures your focus, pulling you away from the present and breaking the flow of what’s important.
But what if you reclaimed that focus? What if, instead of being distracted by notifications, you could give your full attention to the task or person in front of you? I decided to try it, and the difference was astounding. Turning off notifications brought me more time, clarity and peace. It created a space where I could be fully present—whether for work, creativity, or quality time with others. I was no longer sucked in to all the intentions of my phone rather than me own personal intentions.
I encourage you to give it a try. Turn off your notifications this week and notice the change. It’s remarkable how such a small adjustment can have such a big impact. Leave a comment and let me know how it affects your day-to-day life.
Wishing you a mindful, focused day.
